About Markonahalli Dam:
In the year 1940, the then Maharaja of Mysore had assigned Sir M Vishveshwaraiah to build this dam. This is one of the beautiful dam built by Sir M Vishveshwaraiah. The attraction is the syphoning effect that was used for auto opening of sluice gates. Water from Gorur Dam flows in to this. There is enough space for car parking, but not specific place! One should climb few steps to reach the top of the dam. Once we climb up it gives a beautiful panoramic view of the backwaters.
How to Reach Dam from Bengaluru:
The Dam is nearly 85 Kms from Bengaluru. Take the NH4 and then a turn towards Hassan (Mangalore Road) in Nelamangala. After crossing yedyur and a couple of KMS (Take the yedayur fly over) there is a road towards left leading to the Dam (There is a sign post for the same). Travel 7 Kms inside and you can see the dam on your right
Sunset is the main attraction of this place, but the day was bit cloudy and we were not in a mood to wait till 6.00 PM we headed back to Bengaluru after spending some time around this dam.
