Nethravathi Trek is one of the beautiful and challenging treks in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. Surrounded by lush green mountains, waterfalls, streams, and misty trails, this trek is a perfect adventure for nature lovers. 🌿⛰️

After freshening up at Mavina Kombe Homestay, we started our journey to the Nethravathi Trek base camp in a Jeep. It was raining heavily throughout the drive, and honestly, I started wondering if we would be able to complete the trek at all.

The trek had already been closed for the previous 3–4 days because of heavy rain. But there was no sign of the rain stopping!

After completing the formalities at the forest check post, we were assigned a guide and finally started our trek. 🌧️🥾

The rain continued steadily, making the trail wet and slippery. We couldn’t take out our mobile phones often for photographs, and I had decided not to carry my DSLR because of the heavy rain.

So, we missed capturing most of the beautiful trail. 📵

When we reached the first waterfall, the rain slowed down for a while, giving us a small opportunity to take out our phones and click a few pictures.

At the second waterfall, the rain became lighter, and we finally started enjoying the beauty around us. The entire forest looked fresh, green and magical. 🌿💦

The River Crossing – The Scariest Part

Then came the part I was most worried about — the river crossing.

After seeing the amount of rain, I was expecting the water level to be high enough to stop us from continuing. I thought we might even be asked to turn back.

Luckily, we were able to cross the river safely with the help of a rope and our guide. 🙏

Once we crossed it, we knew the final and most difficult stretch was waiting for us.

From the river crossing, we had to climb three small peaks to reach the final viewpoint.

The climb itself wasn’t extremely difficult compared to some other Western Ghats treks, but the heavy rain had made the entire trail extremely slippery.

Every step needed extra care. It took us almost 3 hours to reach the peak, but finally, we made it! ❤️

At the top, we spent some peaceful time having our packed lunch while enjoying the beautiful mountain views. After all the rain, slippery trails and river crossing, reaching the summit felt absolutely worth it. 🥪⛰️

The descent was even more challenging. The slippery trail made every step difficult, and we had to move slowly and carefully.

But eventually, we made it back safely.

The much-awaited Nethravathi Trek was finally completed and ticked off my bucket list! ✅❤️

Sometimes, the best adventures are the ones we wait years to experience! ❤️

Nethravathi isn’t just a trek; it is an experience of rain, forests, waterfalls, adventure and unforgettable memories. If you love the Western Ghats, this trek definitely deserves a place on your bucket list! 🥾🌧️⛰️
