Our recent trip to Coorg was a perfect mix of fun and relaxation. We went there to celebrate our little one Vihas’s fifth birthday and stayed at the peaceful Purple Palms Resort near Kushalnagar. The resort had beautiful gardens, comfortable rooms, and a relaxing spa that made our stay very enjoyable.

One day, we took a short 15 km drive and visited Chiklihole Dam. It’s a quiet and lovely spot, away from the busy tourist places, and gave us a nice break in nature.
Chikliihole Dam is approximately 250 km, about a 5-6 hour drive. Around 24 km from Madikeri and 15 km from Kushalnagar. The nearest town is Nanjarayapattana. As public transportation is limited, it’s best to hire a private vehicle or book a cab from nearby towns to reach the dam.
Chiklihole Dam is an earthen reservoir built across the Chiklihole River, a tributary of the Cauvery. Its unique semi-circular shape without crest gates allows water to overflow gracefully, creating a foam-like effect that’s a treat for the eyes. The surrounding area is lush with greenery and dense forests, making it an ideal spot for photography, picnics, and unwinding in nature.
There is no public transport to the dam. It’s best to hire a private vehicle or book a cab from nearby towns like Madikeri or Kushalnagar.

The dam’s unique structure and the surrounding landscape provide ample opportunities for photography. Whether it’s the cascading water, the lush greenery, or the vibrant sunset, every corner offers a picture-perfect moment.
